It might be cold outside, but it’s snuggly and warm on the bus!

Hop on and let’s go see some liiiiiiiiights! We’re hitting the road with our worst holiday sweaters on, tasty snacks in our hands and singing in our voices.

Don’t Grinch it up, come on, it’s fun and you know it. Give into the best season of all and feel the love.

Where We’re Going

Campus Martius

Our tour starts at the stunning Campus Martius Park where the super huge tree lives. We’ll talk about the history of Campus Martius and how Downtown is growing. If you get in early, make it a point to go ice skating before the tour!

Detroit Zoo Wild Lights

Five million lights. FIVE. MILLION. If that doesn’t get your motor running, I don’t know what will. The animals will be hanging out (including the Beaverium and the Otter Fort is open) and enjoying the lights with you. See also: 5,000,000!!

The Fisher Building

Check out the lights decorating Detroit’s largest art object, the Fisher Building. You know that feeling you get when you go in the Fisher Building and your heart just swells with Detroit pride? That? Well it’s even better with holiday trees and lights. We’ll pop inside for a visit to see the lights and learn about the Fisher Building itself.

Boston Edison Historic District

Home to some of Detroit’s most opulent mansions of mostly former auto barons this historic neighborhood is also home to some of the greatest light installations. We’ll stick on the bus as we take a brief swing through two of these historic streets and talk about some of the celebrities that used to call this neighborhood home.

What exactly am I getting for my bucks?

🦌 Includes tickets to the Detroit Zoo Wild Lights! 🐧

We’ve got you covered! All of your admissions for all of the locations are handled so you don’t need to worry about a thing. That’s a $19 value alone!

🍪 Christmas Snacks, Secret Prizes! 😻

The next best thing to a warm heart is a full belly, am I right? We’re putting together special gift bags of Detroit’s best local snacks for each person. We like to keep it a surprise because surprises are fun, but I think you’ll be pretty thrilled.

👕 The Ugly Sweater Contest 🤦🏽‍♀️

You got ’em, we want ’em. Break out those hideous, complicated, gigantic sweaters and let us throw down. Only the most ultimate holiday sweater getup wins the gold medal. We’ll have GREAT prizes for the gaudiest of the gaudy. Bring your A game, people.

📸 NEW This Year: We’re Bringing A Pro Photographer! 📷

If you can’t share it on social media it didn’t happen, so we’re staffing each bus with a professional photographer to capture those holiday moments. I don’t know how much family photos cost at the mall because it’s 2019, but I’m sure this is a better deal. We’ll share the whole photo set with guests after the tour.

🚗 Optional: Free parking at DBC HQ! 🚘

We’ve got a nice big fenced parking lot at our Corktown HQ that you’re welcome to use during the tour. We’ll be picking up at our HQ 15 minutes before the listed start time of the tour. The address is 1990 Bagley, Detroit MI 48216 and our customer parking lot is at the northeast corner of Rosa Parks and Bagley.

What’s the schedule?

The Pickup Location for this tour is choose your own adventure: you have two (2) options. OPTION 1: free parking at DBC HQ, hey-yo! If you’d like to park for free we’re picking you up at DBC HQ in Corktown (1990 Bagley) 15 minutes before the start of the tour. So if you’re on the 6:00PM tour the bus leaves DBC HQ at 5:45PM – and if you’re on the 7:00PM tour the bus leaves at 6:45PM promptly. You’ll choose your pickup time and location at checkout.

Then, the bus is heading to Campus Martius. This is OPTION 2 for pickup location at the exact time on your ticket. This pickup location is at Campus Martius on Cadillac Square in front of Central Kitchen – across from Cadillac Lodge which is pretty fun. There are lots and lots of food and drink options nearby ‘cuz it’s downtown. We’ll get our group together at the start time and take a walk around Campus Martius as a group to talk about the history of this great public space and the BIG TREE.

Next, we’re getting on the bus to head up Woodward to The Fisher Building for a stop inside to see another BIG AWESOME TREE. If you haven’t been to the Fisher during the holidays you’re in for a big golden surprise.

Then, we’ll head up Woodward with a quick swing through the Boston Edison Historic District to see the light installations there and chat about these big beautiful houses.

Finally, our last stop is FIVE MILLION LIGHTS (!!) at Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo. You’ll be free to stroll the park and see the open exhibits however you choose. They have some concessions available if you’re still feeling peckish.

We’ll then drop off back at Campus Martius and DBC HQ and miss you very much.

What’s the refund policy?

We’ll gladly refund your tickets in full seven days prior to the day of the event. After that, there’s no refunds. Sorry to be so mean about it.

If you want to change the date or cancel your tickets up to 7 days before the event, you can do using the link in your confirmation email or by contacting us. Way easy.

What happens if I miss the bus? Will the bus wait for me if I’m late?

Unfortunately we can’t hold up the bus for late comers, there’s a schedule we gotta keep. If you miss the bus at DBC HQ you can head straight to Campus Martius in front of Central Kitchen. If you’re running REALLY late, you can meet us at The Fisher Building and hop on there, but ideally you’ll be on time.

Can I drink on the bus? I like some beer with my cheer.

For the 7:00PM showing YES, you CAN drink on the bus, but under one condition: You gotta keep it chill. This isn’t a rager – it’s Christmas lights. You’re welcome to bring one small soft-side cooler with cans or bottles – no open cups or mixed drinks. Seriously brah.

For the 6:00PM showing there is ZERO DRINKING. That’s the kids bus. Soft drinks and hot cocoa are welcome.

Is this tour kid friendly?

For the 6:00PM showing: OF COURSE! This slot is All Ages event because we want everyone to get their cheer on. We’ve had tons of kids and parents on this tour and they’ve had a killer time.

For the 7:00PM showing: This is strictly 21+ only.

What about food and soft drinks?

We’ll have super tasty locally made snacks on the bus for all to enjoy. You’ll probably wanna eat a real dinner beforehand. You can bring extra snacks and soft drinks with you, but please keep it minimal and plan to take care of your trash afterwards.

What if I can’t show up? Will my friend be able to go instead?

Totally. Just let us know ahead of time via help@thedetroitbus.com and we’ll update your tickets with the new name or send them with your printed tickets.

Will you be selling extra seats at the bus?

Nope. Sorry. All passes gotta be bought online. There’s a limited number of seats and we want you to have plenty of room – no roof riders no matter how cool that might sound.

What about weather SNAFUs?

We live in Michigan. Sometimes Mother Nature likes to throw us a curveball. We keep safety as our highest priority. In case of super bad weather you’ll receive an email the day of the event with a raincheck/snowcheck date. If you cannot make the rescheduled date, you’ll get a voucher good for a future tour with us or a refund. Weather calls are up to us.

Do you do this tour for private groups?

Yes indeed we do! We book out whole buses to private groups to do this tour on their own. Reach out to us right here and we’ll get you a quote. This usually makes sense for groups of 20 or more. There are very few dates available so book now if this is what you’re into!

With every seat you purchase on one of our experiences, we will give a Detroit kid in need of a safe ride to school or after-school program.

Ride for ride.

  1. Cowboy1953

Took the Holiday Lights tour with the Detroit Bus Company. The tour guide Raleigh and bus drive David were excellent. The bus group was rowdy and fun, had a great time. Didn’t know the Detroit Zoo Lights were that fantastic. Will look into some of the other Detroit Bus Tours.

  2. Celeste B.

They’re a unique mode of transportation in the motor city! They host tours and you can rent out the busses for other small events. For every ride they give they match the money and give rides to the kids of Detroit to school each day. I never knew this, and I LOVE to see Detroit born businesses giving back to the city. How awesome! We used them NYE in 2015 to get to and from a concert in Royal Oak with about 30 friends. It was a really awesome experience, super fun to be on the busses that are covered in beautiful graffiti.

They were our transportation for our wedding in October. Very reasonable pricing. Our bus driver was accommodating and safe! They’re really cool busses with the graffiti. This weekend we’re going on a Christmas lights tour through the Detroit bus company, can’t wait to update my review.

The holiday lights tour was a wonderful idea!!! We loved being on the bus, enjoying our beverages, and getting rides to the various light shows in the area!!! Definitely suggest it to any detroiter!
